Shimmer Paint Technique

Shimmer Paint Technique ... a great accent for any card or page!

Here's a great technique I wanted to pass along.  I've used it to make several cards lately and wouldn't you know it ... I forgot to take a picture before I put them in the mail - BAD GIRL!  Guess I'll just have to make more - right!

Spritz Shimmer Paint

In a 2 ounce "mister" bottle, put about 1 ounce of 91% Rubbing Alcohol then add 6 drops Shimmer Paint.  Shake the bottle, then shake some more, then shake a little more!  Use our Color Catcher Box (or the box from your last SU order!) as this paint will come out in a very fine mist!  Use it as a background, or an accent - it's gorgeous!

We sell Shimmer Paint in three colors - Champagne Mist (#116806), Frost White (#116854) and Platinum (#116807).  I've tried them all - I prefer Chanpagne! (the shimmer paint and the drink!)

So the next time you bring out your bottle of Champagne Mist, grab a mister and raid the medicine cabinet for the rubbing alcohol.  Do a lot of shakin' and then try this beautiful shimmer paint technique!

Heart to Heart ... got to love this 3-in-1 punch from Stampin' Up! Here's a picture of a cute little card I make last year ... [click for a larger view]

Heart to Heart punch + Scallop Envelope Sizzix Die

I used some Designer Series Paper and the Scallop Envelope Die (#113462).  I added an insert where you can add your special message.  A little 'pull tab' using the middle heart from the punch let's them pull out the message very easily.

I also used the Backgrounds 1 Texturz Plate for the large pink piece to give some texture and dimension to the card.

Of course, the little flowers in the corners from a retired punch could be replaced with the Flower shape from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack or evey the small heart from the Heart to Heart punch.  You decide!

I hope this inspires you to use these fun punches and dies in a new way.  Give this card to your Valentine and they'll know you're sending a card from Heart to Heart!

Embossing with Framelits

Embossing with Framelits ... what a great way to add texture and dimension to your project! Click the image for a larger view so you can clearly see the embossed outline.

Fellow SU Demo Jan Farring shared this great tip (that she learned from Chris Smith) and now I'm passing it on to you.

Using your Big Shot and our new Framelits Hearts Collection (item #125599 from the Occasions Mini), create your 'sandwich' for the embossing as follows, top down:

1. Standard Cutting Pad (that comes with your BS)
2. Framelits to fit your image with the CUTTING SIDE UP
3. Card stock with your stamped image
4. 2 Standard Texturz Silicone Rubber pads
5. Multipurpose Platform with Tab 1 and Tab 2

It's great when we find a different way to use our tools ... and I hope you find these instructions helpful when you want your next project to include embossing with Framelits.

My Digital Studio Tutorial - Hybrid Card

My Digital Studio (MDS) is Stampin' Up!s digital crafting software tool.  I love it ... it's so easy to create "Hybrid" cards with it.  That means you an element or two with MDS and finish the card with your 'standard' process.  And in this case, the motocycle image was offered in Jan and it's an image of a stamp set that's now retired.  So if you loved the design but didn't buy the stamp, now you can have it with MDS ... super!

Today's card is from Kris Sobolik (click the image for a larger view)  She printed the motorcycle image (item #124491) in MDS, then colored it and backed it with Pacific Point.  She added a strip of Nursery Nest Designer Series Paper, and four of our circle punches in Old Olive, Pacific Point and Early Espresso, and Silver Glimmer Paper.  The sentiment was stamped with the Grunge Rock set - and Viola! a fabulous Hybrid Card!  Now try it yourself and I hope you liked my mini My Digital Studio Tutorial!

How to Make a Card - I HEART You

How to Make a Card - I HEART You ... is the name I gave this fun card from the designers at Stampin' Up! (click the image for a larger view). 

This  is such a fun layout ... just the Pretty in Pink card base, a Very Vanilla layer, a strip of Blushing Bride Stitched ribbon with a "friends" sentiment on a Jewelry Tag Punch, then lots of Hearts punched with our Small Heart Punch.  They stitched the hearts to the Vanilla layer.  Click here to see the complete list of supplies they used.

Here's a few suggestions to make it your own ...

• Glue the hearts to the Vanilla layer, but adhere a couple with Stampin' Dimensionals #104430
• Replace the ribbon/ tag with a heart punched from Red Glimmer Paper #121790
• Cover a couple of hearts with Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details #125585
• "Sparkle" a row of hearts with any of our Fine Galaxy Stampin' Glitter® #114286
• Emboss a few of the hearts with Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Emboss® Powder #122949

Which ever design and style you choose, it's a lovely card that can be done in a snap ... and the lucky person who receives it will easily recognize your message ... I Heart You!

Bright Hopes

Bright Hopes (from the Holiday Mini catalog) is the name of stamp set used to make this card ... and it's how we feel at the begining of a new year. This card is from my Stampin' Up! site and I wanted to share it here because with just a few changes it would be a great Thinking of You card! [click on either image for a larger view]

Just use the sentiment stamp from this set (instead of the Snow Swirled message they used) and Viola! a beautiful, heartfelt card for your good friends.

Cut your Whisper White card stock to 4 x 12" then score and fold at 4" and 8". Now stamp the tree, snowflakes and sentiment from the Bright Hopes set (wood #122690 $23.95, clear #122692 $17.95). Add your favorite holiday picture to the center section. Add a little bling with our Rhinestone Basic Jewels and you're done!

If you prefer, you can eliminate the picture and make this a 'standard' card by cutting your card stock to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 then score and fold at 4-1/4.

I hope this gives you inspiration to create a beautiful card for your friends to help ring in the new year!

Wicked Cool card!

Wicked Cool ... another great stamp set for your Halloween projects!  This 7- piece set in wood- #118738 or clear-mount #120600 is so fun to create spook-tacular cards!  Click on the image to see a larger view - notice I used the Crimper #101618 for the orange piece .. and the Dots & Spots Wheel for the top piece ... just wanted a little more texture for this fun idea.

I created this card last year for a friend to send to her nephew ... she said he really liked it 'cause those feet sticking up out of the pot makde him laugh!

Here's a tip: when adding images to your design, make sure you 'ground' them like I did here with my River Rock marker.  You don't want your images to look like they're floating in mid-air ... so get out your marker and 'ground' them.

So grab your stamps and markers and create something your kids will think is Wicked Cool!

How to Make a Card - Acronyms

How to make card ... you find a pattern with a bunch of abreviations you don't understand - drat!  How can you create when you dont't understand what they're saying?  Here's a list with some of the more commonly used acronyms ...

• cs - card stock
• die-cut - piece of cardboard, paper, etc cut out by machine into a special shape or design
• ep - embossing powder
• ht - Heat Tool
• SAS - Stamp-A-Stank [event where you make many cards]
• sb - Scoring Blade (used with a table-top paper cutter)'
• SS - Simply Scored, Stampin' Up!s new score board + scoring tool
• SU - Stampin' Up!, of course!
• tcs - textured card stock
• ws - Workshop [in-home Stampin' Up! party]

Fabulous Florets is FABULOUS

Fabulous Florets ... a new stamp set from our Summer Mini catalog ... is FABULOUS!  I've seen so many beautiful projects with this set.  And here's one from Rachel Brumley, a fellow demo from Arkansas is also a member of SUDSOL.  All the featured products are from the Summer Mini.

She created the leaf stem with her Big Shot and the Little Leaves Sizzlets Die.  A little bit of our white 5/8" satin ribbon adds just the right touch to this lovely card.

How to Make a Card ... FREE Tutorial

How to Make a Card ... in My Digital Studio™ ... is so easy when you start with a template designed by the experts.  Just follow their ideas, add a few touches to make it your own, and in a few minutes you've created a masterpiece!  Here's a FREE TUTORIAL to show you how ...

I opened up the My Digital Studio software, clicked on New Project, then: Cards & Tags project, Greeting Card option, 5.5 x 4.25, Landscape size, Designer template, then selected The Write Stuff II template.  It loaded this card: Very nice, but I wanted a little more pizzazz ... so I added another paper from this set to the top half of the card, then removed the 'birthday' sentiment.  I replaced it with the ENJOY from the Enjoy Every Moment Stamp Brush Set, then jazzed it up by overlaying a circle flower from that set for the "o" and adding a Button in Chocolate Chip.  I also added a Chocolate Chip Button to the brown/ green flower.  I added a piece of Alpine Ribbon behind the message and an Alpine Ribbon bow too.  Finally ... I checked that all my embellishments had 'Drop Shadow' set as I wanted and Viola ... a very nice card!  Then I took it a step further (you know me!) and added some details to the "inside" of the card.  This is another fun feature of creating cards in MDS ... you can decorate the inside of the card too!  Here's what I did for the lower half ... the upper half is this same dotted paper without any embellishments. What you need to create this card ...
